Chapt 1+2 of TLOS
First of all I really enjoy the way Maeda breaks down his methods of learning. I can understand what he is talking about through the way he writes and categorizes information. Chapter 1 was about the process of Shrinking Hiding and Embodying when designing. As designers, these are things we think about when trying to create or improve an existing design, but Maeda went into full detail why we need to incorporate these methods and what goes through a viewers mind subconsciously when making a decision on a product. This was helpful, because we need to know why we like the things like, and what makes a design function to its fullest potential.
Chapter 2 was about systems of organization. I enjoyed reading about the evolution of the ipod and how something as simple as button placement can change the way people feel about a product. I thought it was interesting when he says that you want to catagorize to make things seem to blur together, making it look a lot less complex. It seems like organizing is just taking something chaotic and simplifying it.
